Starting Point
Back in 2019, Maurice, owner of That’s So Extra, started his party rental business with folding chairs and a few other items. Growing a party rental is not an easy task and it isn’t fast either. It takes time and a good strategy to succeed. By August 2021, he made his first Chiavari chair purchase.
Start Small, But Start
In August 2021 he first contacted Seat Co, and very quickly made his first purchase. He purchased 50 Chiavari chairs in gold. It wasn’t a big purchase but it allowed him to start making money and he always kept in mind that he had to reinvest that money.
After he received these first 50 chairs he opened his first lay-away purchase for 30 more chairs. He chose a weekly payment plan for three months. During this period, he rented out existing chairs and used part of the rental income to pay for the new order.
This way, if the business was running well, he could pay ahead of schedule. He did just that. After only a month and a half, he had paid off the order and received the new 30 chairs.
And what did he do then?
He repeated the same sequence and placed another order for 30 new chairs. He did this several times. In fact, as of today that this guide is being written, he has an open payment plan for 30 chairs and 30 cushions.
Today, Maurice has more than 200 Chiavari chairs in gold and black, as well as folding chairs, clear Chiavari chairs, other chair styles, folding tables, a variety of thrones and other decorative items. And he will surely continue to grow his inventory.
This is a great case study, but it’s important to keep in mind that having chairs that help you grow your business instead of draining your cash flows is key. Chairs that require constant maintenance and frequent replacements can increase expenses and hinder your inventory growth, as you divert funds from expansion to replacement.
